James Island Shopping Center On Maybank Highway Gets A Minor Makeover

About a month ago around the December holiday season construction fence slowly surrounded the James Island Shopping center at 1739 Maybank Highway. The shopping center features an all-star tenant lineup in James Island including: Harris Teeter, CVS Pharmacy, Club Pilates, the all new Maple Street Biscuit Company, Muddy Waters Coffee Bar, Willow Salon and my personal favorite Hustle Smoothie Bar located inside of Exemplar Fitness.

The rumors have been flying on all of the neighborhood groups and I have heard many questions about what was happening at the shopping center. Some folks have had concern that more tenant spaces were being added and an additional pad site. The shopping center parking lot is already bustling and adding more tenant spaces would really max out the capacity of this facility.

After some minor investigation with the city of Charleston regarding any active permits on the property and doing some asking around, it appears that no major development is actually occurring on site. According to the City of Charleston there are no active permits on the property. After reviewing some marketing materials from the leasing agent on site Lee & Associates of Charleston it appears the center is promoting a new landscape design and may even see some newly added patio spaces. There is, however, several spaces ranging from 713-7491 available for lease in this high volume shopping center. With “The Avalon at James Island” this shopping center should expect to see increase in demand and it’s vacant tenant spaces filled up over the next year.
